A word about history

The North Bohemian history of glass-making can be traced back to the 14th century. Glass-cutting developed in the Jablonec nad Nisou area at the turn of the 18th century, successfully imitating genuine gems – diamond, ruby, topaz, sapphire, amethyst and the like.

Glass-cutting, originally manual, was later replaced by physically less demanding and more accurate techniques using electrically driven machines. And so the North Bohemian region, with its centuries-old glass-making traditions, has become the cradle of machine cutting and polishing. To continue this process, a number of glass-cutting factories were opened in the city of Jablonec nad Nisou and its environs at the turn of the 20th century.

Using the technologies and experience of these manufacturers, Preciosa was founded in 1948 and since then has developed into a world-class company specialising in the manufacture and export of machine cut and polished glass stones and other glass components for fashion jewellery. The company has been evolving its cutting and polishing techniques for 55 years and has reached the pinnacle of the technology.

A wide variety of glass stones by Preciosa

Preciosa’s production of glass fashion jewellery stones includes, first and foremost, machine cut and polished CHATONS, which form the bulk of the company’s output and export. These brilliant-like stones are manufactured in a wide range of sizes and colours.

Machine cut FANCY STONES are made in various shapes with different facets and styles of cut. CHATON ROSES are essentially chatons with flat backs, and so can either be used in fashion jewellery or pressed on fabrics and dresses as HOT-FIX STONES. BEADS, DROPS, BALLS and other products complete this wide variety of machine cut stones produced by Preciosa.
